Extreme Academic Makeover

Do you feel overwhelmed with school?

Do you not know where to start?

Would you like to learn new strategies to help you succeed in school?
 

Now available for students! We are offering Academic Makeovers to the Boise State University population. These are individualized one-on-one appointments with a study skills expert.  We will find your strengths and give you the resources to improve your weaknesses.  This program is a two-appointment commitment.  In the first appointment we will discuss your current state and get tips and strategies on what you would like to improve on.  All appointments will go over time management.  You will walk out of the appointment with a plan of action for the semester.  You will then come back in 1-2 weeks and clarify any remaining questions and discuss the strategies you have decided to implement.

If  you are interested in an Academic Makeover, please follow the steps to make your college career successful!

Step One

  • E-mail Tutorial Services for a consultation. Make sure you include your name and student ID number.

  • You will be contacted with days and times to choose from for an appointment.

  • You will be sent an Intake Form and self-assessments to complete.
     

Step Two

  • Open the PDF Intake Form and fill it out completely.  Print form and bring to your first appointment.

  • Complete all self-assessments (Personality, Sensory and Study Skills).

  • E-mail your assessment scores BEFORE you come to the one-on-one appointment.

Step Three

  • Come to the appointment with all of your course syllabi for the semester.

  • Bring a copy of the Intake Form and scores from your exams to the appointment.

  • Have an open mind for learning new strategies.

  • Have questions and be ready for self-reflection.

Step Four

  • Go to the appointment.

  • Be an active participant in the session.

  • Walk out with a plan of action.

  • Schedule a follow-up appointment.

Step Five

  • Implement some new strategies into your new daily study habit.

Step Six

  • Come to your follow-up appointment with any other questions or comments about your new plan.

  • Bring examples of your new strategies.

  • Be prepared for more self reflection.

Step Seven

  • Have a great and wonderfully successful rest of the semester!

This is a study area located at the Gateway Center for Advising and Academic Enhancement. Students are welcome to use the area for group work, individual study time, and utilize any study skills resources housed in the area.
